So we made the above video to show in Missions chapel today (if you can't see it, click here). It wasn't my idea (since I wasn't deep in the Amazon jungle and to my knowledge, I didn't eat any bugs while I was an SM), but I do what my boss tells me to.
This morning I decided to cook some rice to take with my lentils for lunch. I was in a hurry, so I just poured the rice and water into the rice cooker without washing it first. As I was about to put the lid on, I noticed quite a few brown flecks floating in the water. Hm, I guess there's a good reason for washing rice after all, I thought.
But upon closer inspection, I noticed the brown flecks were moving. On their own volition. My rice was riddled with bugs, and this was no dream.
The bugs had gotten into the entire bag of rice, so I dumped it in the trash, likely canceling out all the rice I've ever donated to starving children through freerice.com. Luckily the bugs had not discovered my bag of brown rice, so I didn't starve for lunch.
Funny story, right? So supper rolls around, and I eat some random leftovers. I decided to finish my meal with cinnamon graham crackers and homemade applesauce. Yummy...
Yucky! There were bugs crawling all over my crackers!
Unfortunately, I didn't even notice until I'd already eaten several crackers. Apparently I can't be a hypocrite even if I want to.
Amanda! I miss you! Nice acting skills!
Awesome Amanda. It was good to see you last weekend. Wish I could have seen more of you...but...we will work on that for next time.
nice
Dude, I feel ya. I've eaten several ant-ridden Cheezits.
Can we rip that off and put it on our website? I think you could still count for Southern. :)
Hope you enjoyed all that protein! Irony indeed. :) Makes me think of Pat Gustin.

That is hilarious! Schnell and I just watched the video and read your blog out loud. This one was a real winner. I laughed. Genuinely. And so I thank you.
I was thinking about rice for dinner...maybe I'll stick with potatoes...
I miss your face!
You little actress you.
i read the blog before watching the video, but now that i watched it was even better. i remember the first time my wife saw some bugs on some of our groceries, ants had gotten into our cabinet. it was fun to see her react. not fun when i had to go through all the cupboards and fumigate everything. but i thought that only happened in Texas. i hope she doesn't read your blog...
man that's crazy! man that's funny. Irony. hahahah!
have been there, no fun, but think of all the extra protein you got from those graham crackers! is interesting how things play out in life though!
Your a great actress. I said that on facebook and I had to repeat it here!
Amanda! Way to promote missions up at Andrews! Haha,...I agree with Andrea...you are on your way to collecting your own Pat Gustin stories. I hope the bugs stop soon. Enjoy the north.
Amanda, I just watched the whole movie without sound because I am in the library! Grr! I want to hear it! :) Anyway, I just read the Bible verser that you left me. Love it. I am hoping to come to Johns wedding...although I'm still trying to think because wedding crashing is not really polite....But it would be so fun to watch "the beloved" get married. I'll let you know. PS. I tried calling you a few days ago...but I have a wrong number...a man answered...he was not that happy! ah! :) Talk to you soon amanda! Love you much! ~Em
hey! That's Justin Groff! I know him! Is he helping with campus ministries? What a small world! Great video, although it kinda ruined my appetite... :-)
